Dr. Sobia Khalid

I am Dr. Sobia Khalid, a consultant histopathologist with more than ten years of hands-on experience in the field. My journey in medicine began in Women Medical College Abbottabad, affiliated then with University of Peshawar. I secured the first position among all the government and private sector Medical Colleges in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. I was awarded a gold medal and cash prize from Mr. Amir Haider Hoti, chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at that time.

Following MBBS I did my house jobs in Gynaecology and Obstetrics and second rotation in Surgery from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore. Later I joined the pathology department at Fatima Memorial hospital of Medicine and Dentistry in Lahore under the kind guidance of Madam Prof Sabiha Riaz for one and a half year.

Later I was selected as a trainee in M.Phil. Morbid Anatomy and Histopathology at University of Health Sciences Lahore under the kind guidance of Prof A. H. Nagi. It was an honor to be selected among 50,000 candidates for just four seats.

I was honoured to be selected as a lecturer in the department of Morbid Anatomy and Histopathology at University of Health Sciences Lahore and later promoted to Assistant Professor in the same department in 2020.

My primary area of expertise is breast pathology, which includes the full diagnostic process from initial assessment of core and biopsies to the interpretation of complex excisions. I routinely report on receptor status. In addition to breast pathology, I also report native and transplant renal biopsies, often handling referrals from other trusts. I participate in weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings focused on both breast and renal cases, and I value the strong collaborative relationships I’ve built with fellow clinicians and allied health professionals. My appraisal records are exemplary, and I hold full registration and validation to practice from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). I also maintain a robust CPD (Continuing Professional Development) portfolio.

Outside of clinical duties, I mentor local pathology trainees and act as a designated appraiser for my trust. Additionally, I remain deeply committed to education, teaching undergraduate students in my role as an academy lead for pathology instruction.
